Dune: Part Two directed by Denis Villeneuve and based on the novel written by Frank Herbert has officially hit the cinemas and no stone has been left unturned. From visuals to music to casting, to acting, every little aspect of the movie has been more than perfect, which has also left a little void as Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed Dune: Part Three just yet.

Interstellar (2014)

This 2014 movie directed by the one and only Christopher Nolan has a similar runtime to Dune: Part Two, with only a few minutes apart, and falls under the genre of sci-fi. Over the decade, Interstellar has made its way to several lists of sci-fi movies and has received appreciation and accolades for the same, which puts this movie first on our list.

Much like the Dune franchise, Interstellar also boasts a star-studded cast with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain in the lead. If you are into futuristic sci-fi, then Interstellar is the way to go as it showcases an inhabitable Earth, as the lead characters are tasked with finding a new planet for humans.

Arrival (2016)

The 2010s were a decade for groundbreaking sci-fi movies as the year 2016 presented itself with the very loved and popular Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve, aka the director of Dune and Dune: Part Two. While one of the striking similarities between the Dune franchise and Arrival is the director itself, the sci-fi genre stands out as the striking similarity.

2016’s Arrival surrounds a linguist who teams up with the military to try and communicate with an alien lifeform. The cast of Arrival includes Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, and Michael Stuhlbarg amongst others.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Much like the Dune franchise and Arrival, Blade Runner 2029 is also one of Denis Villeneuve’s directorial ventures, and another successful one that made a huge splash in the cinemas, and gathered a lot of blockbuster recognition. Blade Runner 2049 stars some of the most talented actors and actresses that Hollywood has ever seen, including Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Mark Arnold, and Ana de Armas amongst others.

Apart from the director and genre, another similarity between Blade Runner 2049 and Dune: Part Two is Dave Bautista, who has acted in both movies. For anyone who loves a mix of sci-fi and thriller, Blade Runner 2049 should be at the top of their list.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

In 2015, director George Miller set out to make one of the most iconic sci-fi action movies of all time, aka Mad Max: Fury Road. This movie was nominated for over 200 accolades and now has a huge fan following.

In fact, the prequel for the movie will be released in 2024, titled, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. So, as it turns out, 2024 isn’t just a big year for the Dune franchise, but also for the Mad Max franchise.

Mad Max: Fury Road is set in a Set in a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland and boasts an ensemble cast including Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Josh Helman amongst several others. It is also noteworthy that, Mad Max: Fury Road has won 6 Oscars!

Prometheus (2012)

A list of sci-fi movies would be incomplete without the mention of Ridley Scott and one of his creations. Scott has previously directed Alien, Gladiator, the original Blade Runner, and many more movies that have shaped the cinema we know today. Another one of Scott’s creations was Prometheus, which was released in 2012, where a team follows the clues to the origin of mankind, only to realize that they are not alone.

Prometheus had an arsenal of very talented actors and actresses including Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, and Sean Harris amongst others. This movie by Scott was also nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

While Dune: Part Two has been a great addition to the sci-fi genre, it is important to remember some of the movies released before it, especially in the 2010s which has time and again proved to be a great decade for sci-fi.
