The Signal is Netflix’s latest German mini-series that revolves around the mysterious disappearance of an astronaut. This series stars some brilliant actors and actresses including Peri Baumeister, Yuna Bennett, Florian David Fitz, Sheeba Chaddha, Hadi Khanjanpour, and Katharina Schüttler. With exceptional performances from each cast member, several things worked out in favor of Netflix.

There’s a lot to look forward to when it comes to The Signal, and while there are several elements of sci-fi and mystery attached to it, the mini-series ultimately boils down to relationships, with a big focus on family.

So, keep reading our review to find out what we believe worked for The Signal, and whether you should stream it or skip it.

A Mission Like Never Before

It is almost impossible to decide whether or not The Signal has a protagonist because each character plays an important role in this series. Sven and Charlie are a father-daughter duo who are patiently waiting for Paula, the mother, to return from the international space station.

The series is off to an interesting start when Paula is almost painted as the wrongdoer when she takes too long to push the buttons for the parachutes for her and Hadi, the other astronaut, to land safely on the ground.

However, that is only the beginning of something much bigger that’s in play, and in fact, has been in play since Indian billionaire Benisha Mudhi funded this mission and sent the chosen astronauts to space, whilst also having a close relationship with Paula.

Things don’t turn out as expected when Paula’s flight, which contained several other passengers goes missing, and all fingers point to Paula after a voice recording hinted that she was in the cockpit when things went wrong.

While there are many elements and little subplots to The Signal, as aforementioned, the focus of this series remains on relationships, and one that beautifully stands out is the father-daughter relationship showcased through Sven and Charlie, who are grieving the loss of a wife and a mother, but at the same time don’t have the will to give up, and try their best to find out what really happened on Paula’s mission and her flight.

This mini-series had a bittersweet ending, however, the spark in little Charlie is something that would touch everyone’s hearts. While The Signal wasn’t a groundbreaking series in the world of drama, mystery, or sci-fi, it definitely deserves a watch for the little nuances over the course of only four episodes.

Conclusion

If you like a little bit of mystery combined with some emotional drama, then The Signal might just be the perfect watch for you. So far, there is no information about a second season from Netflix, but do keep a lookout on our website for the same.
